There are many factors which cause the conflict between the Tamils and the Sinhalese. Which do you think are the more important ones? Explain your answer.

The conflict between the Sinhalese and the Tamils has existed since 1948. This is because the Tamils feel that the Sinhalese-dominated government has been unfair to them in various ways.

What I think are the more important factors which cause the conflict are citizenship rights, jobs in the government service, university admission and resettlement of the population.

In 1948, many Indian Tamils who came from India to Sri Lanka were stateless as Sri Lanka only gave citizenship to those who were born in Sri Lanka or whose fathers and grandfathers brought them over. Even thought those Indian Tamils were in Sri Lanka for so long, they were denied from basic rights such as voting. 1n the 1980s, as many as 10,000 Indian Tamils were still stateless. However, they still worked on tea plantations and gave to the country.

With independence in 1956, the Sri Lankan government decided to make Sinhala the only language of adminstration under the Official Language Act. Tamils in the government service were given three years to learn Sinhala or be dismissed. Tamils were unable to secure jobs or be promoted. Rioting occurred which resulting in over a hundred deaths.

i havent updated for a weekk!! the horror. hahaa. (: anyway. my life has been great. that pretty much tells everything. i'm hooked to in my place. coldplay!! love it. and what else. *scratches head* overnight prayer meeting was the bestestt. how long did we pray for? five hours. about there i think. it felt so good. i went iceskating on wednesday with the south-central people. eeeeeeeekkkkk. *frowns* lol. half the time. no. seven eight of the time i was walking on ice. i couldnt get it right. the good thing was. i dint fall and wet my jeans!! so. the next time i go iceskating. its going to be at kallang. where there arent ruthless people who bump into you. (and make you scream.) today i went to westmall to meet bush. ringgit. and add. geog project. yea. good time. then when add left. the three of us sat on the floor and watched 5566 on the big screen. how disgusting. but yes. i did it. \: hahahaa.

today wasnt very bad. (: pe was fun. we played floorball. love it mann. but the courts were so small. oh. the new sports complex is pretty cool. with all the funky lights and new stuff. i cant believe i failed geoggg. like. what in the world. last year it was my best subject. this year its chem. (: errr. we went to toa payoh to cheer for netball. and it was super super exciting. i loveee screaming with niaoniao and escape. and cacheng. hehh. i've never like been so enthusiastic about this kind of stuff before. now i see the joy of cheering. hahaaa. mg rockkss. then i went to mcdonalds with escape. and we talked. a lot a lot. and i followed her home. in a extremely crowded bus. for i dont know what reason. (: good mood. yea. and i went back to good old potong pasir. for three minutes. and i left. to meet glue. and we went to third place. there. my friday. hah.

we just presented our lit thing. and i think we did the best. so there. we're only ones original enough to do a video!! and all she says is "what happened to the light?" aahh. thats not fair. and two other groups are getting more time to do their project. oh yes. and everyone was paying attention when we were presenting! (: we should get credit for that. and all four of us havent done any homework. because we were at shuj's hse until twelve?? eeyerrr. i love lit projects mann. but she should like. give us more time. \: hmpf. i'll be going out with danielle after school. i think. hahaaa.

just a few minutes to add an entry. then i got to go and bathe. and leave to go to church. and then after church i got to rush to sabb's house to do the lit project. i hope i dont get lost at ulu pandan like the last time i went to her house to pick her up. good taxi driver. (: so yes. i was at kap yesterday. with min. cacheng. sachoo. and mel. and sachoo couldnt stop laughing. and they were playing with my ears. \: blah blah blah. in churchh. tiger woods rocks. like. hes real good. dominator. genius of simpicity. yeaa. then i hurried to third place for a prayer mtg. i love the football thing. ((: hahaaa. yupp. and then i went home. yay.

i stayed over at glues house ydae. so fun. we were like worshipping at ten plus. then we talked and talked about serious issues. lol.
